Frequently Asked Questions - Vehicle Braking Indicator - Designed By Pete Rose
How does it work?
It works on inertia, so if you had a tennis ball in your car, when you brake the ball is projected forward, so if you slowed down 10mph the ball will travel forward at 10mph, slow down at 20mph, the ball will travel 20mph. This is what the box will measure and light the LED's on an outward direction to indicate the level of braking. If you had to do an emergency stop you will light all 30 LED's and the light bar will flash and continue to flash until you release the brakes.
How easy is it to fit?
VERY EASY - The LED bar can be fitted to the rear window or parcel shelf, with the car on level ground the box can be mounted level in the boot/rear of the vehicle. The LED bar then plugs into the box, you then have two wires out of the box, connect one to earth and the live wire connects to the brake light circuit with a scotch lock. Does it fit to my brake pedal?
NO - as your brakes wear, your pedal will travel further and this would give you a false reading.
Does it work on pressure to the brake system?
NO - because if you are carrying passengers or a load, the pressure on the pedal you apply would vary and you would have to take the vehicle to a garage to have pressure sensors fitted and it would be expensive.
Does this replace my brake lights?
No - leave your brake lights as standard, the VBI works in conjunction with your brake lights NOT on its own.
Do I have to buy a new VBI if I sell my car?
NO - the VBI can be removed and fitted to your new car, because it will work the same on any vehicle if fitted correctly.
Will the VBI interfere with my original brake light?
NO - the VBI has been designed to use very little power, less than a side light bulb, with all 30 LED's lit it uses only 0.6 of an amp, it has been built in surge protectors to stop any damage in or out of the VBI.
